Our little plants are growing up and we’re transplanting them into larger containers.
There they grow under natural day length to get established and size up before flower initiation. The plants have been put on drip irrigation and our short day system has been installed.
Garden mums require that the days be no longer than 13 hours to flower, natural bloom time is late September. Customers want them ready August 1. We pull the black plastic each evening around 7pm and uncover at 7am. We do this for approx 4 weeks.
After 4 weeks the flower buds are the size of a big pea and beginning to crack open. Notice the drip tape. Very efficient and low water use. During normal summer coditions they requjre daily irrigation. We have over 50 miles of drip irrigation we use at Harts.
Feels good when you do everything right and we can ship out a quality plant to our neighbors of Oregon. That’s 1 plant approx 18″ across
We begin with an unrooted cutting from mother stock. We stick the cutting into rooting media and transplant approx 2 weeks later.
